At the glitzy Cannes Film Festival, the 72-year-old legend opened up about his thoughts on where the story of Rocky Balboa could go next. “I’ve got this incredible idea for Rocky,” Stallone shared with a grin. “Imagine this: Rocky discovers a guy who’s living in the country illegally. It’s a whole new dynamic, a fresh twist that could really resonate with audiences today. It would be phenomenal, something completely different from what we’ve seen before.”
He continued, “It’s like watching a magician perform. Once you figure out how they do the tricks, the magic fades. That’s kind of where we are with Rocky. People have seen it all. So the challenge becomes, how do we make it different? This idea would definitely stand out.”

Politics and Patriotism: Rocky's Unintentional Message
Now, some might think the Rocky series has taken on a political tone in recent years. But according to Stallone, that wasn’t the plan. “Rocky is a simple guy who grew up with a certain mindset. That’s just the way things were back then,” he explained. “We were all super patriotic as kids. That’s who Rocky is. He’s not some political animal. When he wraps himself in the flag, he genuinely believes he’s doing the right thing.”
Stallone added, “You see it all the time in boxing. Fighters hoist their nation’s flag after a victory—it’s automatic. They’re not trying to say, ‘We’re better than you.’ It’s something they were trained to do. So, I never saw it as a confrontational move.”
