Hey there, fans of Sex and the City! If you're still holding out hope for a third movie in the iconic franchise, you might want to sit down for this one. The woman who started it all, Candace Bushnell, recently dropped some hints about the future of Carrie Bradshaw and her fabulous crew. Spoiler alert: It might not be what you’re hoping for.
During an exclusive chat with Closer Weekly at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s Hot Pink Party on May 15, the 60-year-old author and journalist shared her thoughts on the possibility of another film. You might recognize Candace as the mastermind behind the original New York Observer column that eventually became the beloved Sex and the City series on HBO. Of course, the show brought us the unforgettable characters played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall, and Cynthia Nixon.

Why Another Movie Might Not Happen
Candace didn’t exactly shut the door on the possibility of a third movie, but she certainly didn’t leave it wide open either. When asked about the potential for another installment, she said, “Who knows? I think anything could happen, but would there be? I doubt it.” Oof, that’s a pretty heavy blow for fans who’ve been waiting years for more adventures with Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte.

Even though it’s been two decades since the first episode aired, the themes and storylines of Sex and the City continue to resonate with audiences today. Candace explained, “To me, the most important thing is that women’s experiences are so much deeper than just what’s on the surface. They’re complex, layered, and so much more than just skin-deep.”
She went on to elaborate about the unique phase of life many women find themselves in. “Being a woman, you go through these transitions, and one of them is the time when you’re in between college and starting a family. For some, this is a short phase, but increasingly, many women are finding partners later in life. It’s a whole different journey now compared to years ago,” she noted.
What’s Next for Candace Bushnell?
While a third Sex and the City movie might not be on the horizon, Candace hasn’t slowed down. She’s written a new book titled Is There Still Sex in the City?, which is already being adapted into a TV series. This project dives into the lives of women in their 50s and 60s, exploring how their experiences have evolved over the years.
