It feels like every classic TV show is getting a reboot these days, but one series that's been left off the list so far is Who's the Boss?. Fans have been wondering if this beloved '80s sitcom might ever make a comeback, and now Tony Danza, the man who played the charming Tony Micelli, is spilling some details. In an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, the 68-year-old actor revealed that he’s actually started considering the idea of a reboot. Let’s dive into what he had to say.
At a special Diamond Gala marking the 75th Anniversary Celebration of Patsy’s Italian Restaurant on September 23, Tony opened up about his thoughts. He admitted, “Oh, you know what? I’ve been thinking about it.” For years, Tony had always dismissed the idea, especially after the loss of their beloved co-star Katherine Helmond, who played the unforgettable Angela Bower. But something recently changed his perspective. “I used to say no, and it certainly would be hard without Katherine,” he explained. “But you know something? I work for the Police Athletic League here in the city—I’m on the Board of Directors. We just put on our benefit Thursday night at John Jay to support the teen acting program, PAL’s Acting, because when you teach a kid how to act, you teach a kid how to act—that’s our slogan.”

During one evening, Tony shared a story about an encounter that shifted his mindset. “I was standing outside rehearsal one night with a bunch of kids from the program,” he recalled. “A woman walked by with her two kids, one of them about six years old. The little kid looks up at me and says, ‘Hey, are you Tony Micelli?’ I was like, ‘Wait a minute! How do you even know that?’ And the mom explained that he watches the show every night. He replays the same episodes over and over again. That moment made me realize something—it wouldn’t be a bad thing for kids today to see this show. We always had a message in mind when we wrote those episodes. We knew there were kids watching, and we felt a responsibility to them. So if we could recreate that same positive impact, I might actually be interested in doing a reboot.”

Staying Connected with the Cast
According to Tony, he’s stayed in touch with everyone from the original cast, including Judith Light, Alyssa Milano, and Danny Pintauro. The ABC sitcom aired from 1984 to 1992, and Tony admits that his time on the show taught him a lot about life. “You know, my adult years really spanned from being a bachelor living large in Hollywood with one series to suddenly being married with kids and starring in another,” he explained. “I went through so much during the run of that show. It’s such a big part of my life—it shaped who I am today.”
