Fashion icon Rachel Zoe is all about letting her kids express themselves, and that includes embracing their unique style choices. In a world where societal norms often dictate hairstyles—short for boys and long for girls—Rachel, 48, is breaking the mold. She recently opened up about her decision not to pressure her 5-year-old son, Kaius Berman, to cut his shoulder-length locks because, well, he loves them just the way they are.
“Listen, my son thinks he’s rocking some serious surfer vibes with his hair,” Rachel told People in a candid conversation. “I’m not forcing him into anything he doesn’t want. He adores his hair, and to him, it’s totally cool. Why would I ever want to change that?”

Parenting with Heart: Rachel Zoe’s Approach
Rachel shares her two sons, Kaius, 5, and 8-year-old Skyler Berman, with her husband, Rodger Berman. As a proud mom, she loves sharing glimpses of her family life on social media. But lately, it hasn’t been easy. Some internet trolls have been chiming in with unsolicited opinions about her kids’ hairstyles.
“The other day, someone left a comment on Instagram that really got under my skin,” Rachel recalled. “They said something like, ‘Rachel, your kids are old enough now that they might start getting teased for their long hair. You should cut it for their sake.’” Her response? “I politely asked them to unfollow me. No hard feelings, but I don’t need that negativity in my life.”
Standing Up to Online Bullies
Rachel admits she’s still baffled by the phenomenon of online bullying. “How can anyone spend their time trying to insult someone else’s child? It’s just so cruel,” she said. Despite these challenges, Rachel isn’t about to hide her kids from the world. “My kids and my career are my life. If I stop sharing pictures of them, I’d be withholding a huge part of who I am from my followers. And honestly, I’m head-over-heels obsessed with them.”

Raising Kids with Confidence
Rachel’s approach to parenting is all about empowering her kids to be themselves. “I want my boys to feel confident in their own skin, no matter what anyone else says,” she explained. “And if that means letting them rock their surfer hair, then so be it. At the end of the day, it’s about supporting them and loving them for exactly who they are.”
So here’s to you, Rachel Zoe. You and Rodger are doing an amazing job raising two beautiful, unique boys. Keep encouraging them to express themselves and embrace their individuality—it’s what makes them special!
