Here’s the thing: Just because Kate Flannery is a woman of a certain age, it doesn’t mean she can’t still bring it like a champ. Recently, the beloved Office star sat down with Closer Weekly and other reporters at a taping for Dancing With the Stars, and she opened up about the biggest lesson she’s taken away from this incredible journey.
“You know, as we get older, we tend to think, ‘Well, that’s it. I can’t do what I used to,’” Kate, 55, shared with a smile. “But here’s the kicker: We can still do so much more than we ever imagined. I want to be a voice for that strength that comes with age. There’s so much to be proud of as we grow older, and it’s all about embracing it.”

From Meredith Palmer to Dancing Queen
Kate, the SAG Award-winning actress who’s currently lighting up the stage on Dancing With the Stars season 28 alongside professional dancer Pasha Pashkov, explained that while the show might seem like just another dance competition, it’s been a serious personal challenge for her. “Look, this is a fun dance show, but let me tell you—it’s also a test of grit and determination,” she said with a laugh. “And I’m loving every second of it.”
When asked about her dance partner, Kate couldn’t help but gush. “I’m dancing with one of the best in the business—Pasha Pashkov. He’s a seven-time national ballroom champion and literally just won another title in February. So yeah, I’m out there dancing with the best dancer in the country. How cool is that?”
Age is Just a Number, Folks
Kate made it clear that she believes in not underestimating yourself, no matter what people might think about your age. “Here’s the deal: Don’t count yourself out. You never know what life has in store for you,” she said earnestly. “I’m living proof that amazing things can happen at any age. Just keep pushing forward and believe in yourself.”
A Tribute to Mary Poppins—and Her Sister
During week five of the competition, Kate delivered a stunning tribute performance to Mary Poppins. Dressed to impress, she and Pasha wowed the judges with their jazz rendition of “A Spoonful of Sugar,” originally made famous by Julie Andrews. The performance earned them a score of 24 out of 30, and it held special meaning for Kate.

“Mary Poppins is one of my family’s all-time favorite movies,” Kate explained. “But this performance was extra special because it reminded me of my sister, Nancy, who passed away from breast cancer in June. She had this Mary Poppins doll that we weren’t allowed to touch, but she would play the music on the piano all the time. That movie meant the world to her, so I was really thinking about her while we performed.”
She added, “To be able to honor that on such a grand stage—it was an incredible experience. The production value was top-notch, and the energy was through the roof. I don’t say this lightly, but I’m truly honored to have been a part of it.”
We’re rooting for Kate every step of the way and can’t wait to see what else she’s got in store for us!
