There’s something truly magical about dance running in the family. Peta Murgatroyd and her husband, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, are both stars on "Dancing With the Stars," and it seems their two-year-old son, Shai, has inherited their rhythm. In a candid conversation with Closer Weekly, Peta opened up about how their little one is already showing signs of being a tiny dancer.
Shai's Love for Music and Dance
Peta shared that Shai absolutely adores music and isn’t shy about expressing himself through movement. “He loves music. He loves to dance, but we haven’t put him into anything formal or professional training,” she revealed at the grand reopening of Cleo in Hollywood. “I think he’s way too young for that right now.”

While it’s still too early to tell if Shai has a natural talent for dance, Peta cherishes every moment she gets to spend with her little one at home. “The amount of love you have for your child—it just amazes me every day,” she told Closer. “I wake up, and even if I’ve had a bad day, if anything has gone wrong, Shai and Maks are the only ones who can really lift my spirits. They’re just incredible.”
Shai's Rapid Growth
Shai continues to surprise Peta daily, growing up faster than she can keep up with. “One minute they love strawberry ice cream, and the next day you offer it as a treat, and he says, ‘No, I don’t want it anymore, Mom. I’m over it,’” she joked. “And I’m like, ‘Oh my God, when did this start happening?’ It’s wild how quickly kids change their minds.”

Motherhood Keeps Peta Busy
Being a mom has kept Peta incredibly busy, but she’s embracing the journey with open arms. Although she’s unsure if she’ll return for Season 28 of Dancing With the Stars, she’s excited about exploring new opportunities in the acting world. “I’m auditioning every few days for new movies, new TV shows, and stuff like that. That’s really what I’ve been doing,” she said, revealing her dream role in a superhero movie.
“I really enjoy comic movies, superwomen, superhero roles. Maybe it’s because I come from an athletic background, but I feel like I could really showcase my skills in those types of roles,” Peta explained. “For example, something like Captain Marvel—that would just be a dream come true.”
The possibilities for Peta seem endless, and her passion for both dance and acting is inspiring.
