On a beautiful September day in 1969, the legendary soap opera star Susan Lucci tied the knot with Helmut Huber, an Austrian-born chef. Fast forward to today, and this iconic couple is celebrating an incredible 50 years of love, laughter, and life together. It's truly a love story for the ages.
Reflecting on their big milestone, Susan, now 72, spoke exclusively to Closer Weekly during Broadway Sings’ yearly benefit for Pride on Monday, June 24. With her signature charm, she said, “It will be, if we play our cards right.” That’s right, folks, this power couple is gearing up to mark five decades of devotion and partnership.
So, what’s on the agenda for this golden anniversary? Well, Helmut, now 81, admitted they’re still brainstorming ideas to make the occasion unforgettable. But Susan gave us a sneak peek, revealing they’ll likely be jetting off to Austria. “We’ve been there many times because he’s from there, but there are still places I haven’t explored,” Susan shared, adding, “It should be a fantastic trip.”

Love That Lasts a Lifetime

After all these years, their love shows no signs of fading. When asked what makes Helmut her one-and-only, Susan opened up about his unique ability to make her laugh. “Helmut doesn’t exactly look like the type who would crack jokes—he’s quite imposing—but once you get to know him, he’s hilarious,” she said with a smile. “That mix of seriousness and humor is what makes him so special.”
A Family Legacy

Susan and Helmut have built an incredible family over the years. They’re proud parents to daughter Liza Huber and son Andreas Huber, and grandparents to five adorable grandchildren. When asked how she describes her role as a grandma, Susan said it’s all about love. “I’m a kissing, hugging, feeding, tickling kind of grandma,” she shared with a laugh. It’s clear that family is at the heart of everything for this couple.
Resilience and Passion
It’s been quite the journey for Susan, who earlier this year revealed she was “lucky to be alive” after undergoing an emergency heart procedure. Despite everything, she’s kept her spirits high and continues to inspire fans with her resilience. Interestingly, Susan didn’t tell her mom about the health scare—talk about strength! And if you’re wondering whether retirement is on her mind, think again. Last year, Susan told Closer Weekly that she has no plans to step away from the spotlight anytime soon. The word "retirement" simply isn’t in her vocabulary.
