A Heartbreaking Farewell: Remembering Cassandra Harris
For Pierce Brosnan, the memory of losing his first wife, Cassandra Harris, remains etched in his heart. It was a day in 1991 when the world seemed to stop for the Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again star. Cassandra, who was only 43, succumbed to ovarian cancer, the same disease that had taken her mother, Roma Waites, years before. This devastating loss left an indelible mark on Pierce’s life, shaping the man he is today.
Pierce often reflects on the profound impact Cassandra had on his life. "Cassie made me the man I am, the actor I am, the father I am," he once shared, his voice heavy with emotion. The pain of losing someone so integral to his existence was overwhelming. "There is an incredible cruelty in it all, losing a person you shared everything with," he confided. At 66, Pierce recounted the depth of his sorrow, explaining to People in 1992, "This is the first time in my life I’ve ever experienced bereavement, and it’s overwhelming."

A New Chapter: Finding Love with Keely Shaye Smith
After Cassandra's passing, Pierce believed he would never find love again. But life has a way of surprising us. Enter Keely Shaye Smith, a journalist who would change everything for Pierce. "I had a great marriage which sadly had its own ending, and I was lucky enough to find love again," Pierce admitted. It was as if time stood still when they first met. "We were meant to find each other. I thank God for her every day," he gushed.

Their connection was immediate and profound. "We talked until 3 in the morning," Keely recalled in an interview with People. "He had this mischievous sparkle in his eyes. I thought, 'Wow! Wow!'" Their bond grew stronger with each passing day, and soon they were inseparable. In 2001, Pierce and Keely tied the knot, welcoming their second child, Paris, now 18, into the world later that year. Their first child, Dylan, now 22, had been born in 1997.
