Let’s talk about Jack Ryan. If you're a fan of Tom Clancy's work, you’ve probably seen Jack Ryan come to life in various forms over the years. Alec Baldwin gave us a memorable performance in The Hunt For Red October, Harrison Ford brought intensity to Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, Ben Affleck took on the role in The Sum of All Fears, and Chris Pine gave us a fresh perspective in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. But now, it’s John Krasinski’s turn to step into those iconic boots in the Amazon series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. The show is back for its second season, and the trailer just dropped, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come.
Jack Ryan: A Hero for the Modern Age
This version of Jack Ryan isn’t just a rehash of what we’ve seen before—it’s a reinvention, with a modern twist. Back in 1984, Tom Clancy introduced the world to this reluctant hero, and now, in 2023, the story feels as relevant as ever. In this series, Jack Ryan is an up-and-coming CIA analyst who gets thrown into the deep end of field work for the first time. In the second season, after discovering a suspicious shipment of illegal arms in the Venezuelan jungle, Jack heads down to South America to investigate. What starts as a routine investigation quickly spirals into something much bigger. As Jack digs deeper, he uncovers a conspiracy that threatens global stability. The President of Venezuela doesn’t take kindly to this interference and launches a counter-attack that hits close to home for Jack. This sets off a high-stakes global mission that takes Jack and his team from the United States to the UK, Russia, and back to Venezuela. The stakes couldn’t be higher as they work to unravel the President’s sinister plan and bring peace to a country on the brink of chaos.

John Krasinski’s Take on the Role
John Krasinski, speaking at the red carpet premiere of the new season at LA Fleet Week aboard the historic Battleship Iowa, had a lot to say about his experience with the show. He explained, “What’s really cool about this version, especially for me as an actor, is that it takes a lot of the pressure off. Instead of having to cram everything into a two-hour movie, we’ve got eight hours to really explore the story. That was a big selling point for me. The question was, what if movies weren’t the best place for Jack Ryan? It’s tough to fit all that depth and complexity into two hours. But with eight hours, we can really dive deep into these characters. We get to see Jack’s fears, his reluctance to be out in the field. One of my favorite moments in the first few episodes is when Jack says he doesn’t want to go out in the field ever. But, of course, life has other plans for him.”

John also shared how his experience on the 2016 film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi influenced his approach to this role. “What I learned on 13 Hours,” he said, “is that it’s all about the people. One of the greatest moments of my life, not just my career, was meeting the real-life operators who helped us make that film authentic. So, naturally, I wanted to do the same thing here. And let me tell you, when I got to the CIA, I probably embarrassed myself. I’m sure they have it all on tape. But they were incredible. Meeting those people was such a gift.”
