Let’s be real—it’s been over a year since HGTV’s Fixer Upper aired its last new episode, but if you think Chip and Joanna Gaines have been sitting on the sidelines, think again. These two powerhouses have been busy as ever, launching exciting ventures that keep fans buzzing. From opening a cozy Magnolia coffee shop right in their hometown of Waco, Texas, to releasing a second cookbook, and even rolling out their very own Magnolia Network—a Discovery-affiliated channel dedicated to all things home-related, set to debut next summer. Joanna opens up about the challenges they face together, saying, “When I get nervous or afraid, the part that gets me up every day is knowing we’re climbing these steep mountains side by side.” And with 16 years of partnership under their belts, it’s clear they’re just getting started.
The Heart of Their Success: Family and Faith
Even as Fixer Upper skyrocketed Chip and Joanna from local home renovators to national celebrities and business moguls, they’ve never lost sight of what truly matters—family, faith, community, and each other. Joanna, 41, and Chip, 44, have always kept their values close to their hearts. Chip calls his wife and the mother of their five children “the most important thing in the world… followed closely by these beautiful kids.”

From Renovators to Renowned Icons
When Chip and Joanna first received that call from HGTV about hosting their own home improvement show before Fixer Upper premiered in 2013, neither could have predicted the whirlwind of success that awaited them. “For this to have grown as big as it has, it’s been something else,” Chip admits. But their journey didn’t stop there. Today, Magnolia Market in Waco draws around 30,000 visitors every week. They’ve expanded their empire to include publishing a magazine, writing four books, and creating product lines for Target and Anthropologie. Their influence even reached Jennifer Lopez, who sought their advice on her Malibu home renovation.
Raising a Family in the Spotlight
Despite their fame and wealth, Chip and Joanna have stayed grounded, ensuring their core values remain intact while raising their children—Drake, 14; Ella, 12; Duke, 10; Emmie, 9; and Crew, 1. A close friend explains, “Joanna’s biggest fear would be if their kids turned into brats. They refuse to spoil them.” At home, the kids are assigned chores and have strict limits on screen time. Joanna insists, “We want to give them a chance to just be normal kids.” She’s firm about not having a TV in the house, believing that arts, crafts, and imaginative play are far more valuable for her children’s development, as explained by a close friend.

Guided by Faith
Joanna credits her unwavering faith in God for guiding her through tough decisions. “Even today, with all the opportunities coming our way, I need His guidance. Otherwise, I’d say yes to everything,” she confesses. Meanwhile, Chip relies on his faith to stay humble and grateful. “Without God, for me, I’m not the best version of myself,” he shares. The couple remains active in their local community, giving back whenever possible. “They go to church, help out at school, and participate in charity functions,” says a friend.
A Partnership Built to Last
At the heart of their success lies their unshakable commitment to each other. Chip openly admits, “Early on in our marriage, we had some conflict.” However, they grew stronger by shifting their focus from blaming each other to supporting one another. “Jo and I care about each other’s hearts, we care about each other’s souls,” he says. “We decided, ‘No matter what comes our way, it’s you and me against the world.’ The secret to our success is simply pulling for one another.”
