Let’s talk about love, relationships, and how to keep the spark alive. When it comes to making a relationship work, former world No. 1 tennis star Andy Roddick has a pretty simple philosophy: "Patience." That’s right—patience. And who better to share this wisdom than Andy, who has been happily married to supermodel and actress Brooklyn Decker for a decade? The couple, who have two beautiful kids—son Hank, 3, and daughter Stevie, 1—know a thing or two about keeping things fresh and meaningful.
Marriage Lessons from a Pro
Here’s the deal: Andy isn’t just talking about patience in the abstract. He’s been there, done that, and lived it. When he sat down with Closer Weekly at IHG’s Legends Unmatched Summer Soirée in NYC, he opened up about what it takes to keep a marriage thriving. “Being more interested in asking questions than making statements,” he said. It’s about listening, understanding, and making sure you’re truly present in the relationship. Easy to say, but not always so easy to do, right?
Life After Tennis: Adjusting to a New Normal
Andy retired from professional tennis on his 30th birthday during the 2012 U.S. Open, and he’s the first to admit that life was different back then. “Brooklyn put up with a lot when I was traveling and playing all the time,” he confessed. “That was a different sort of life, but now we’re kind of a little more settled, and it’s been great.” Imagine being married to someone whose job requires them to be away from home constantly. Brooklyn had to be patient, supportive, and flexible—and Andy acknowledges that every step of the way.

Keeping the Spark Alive
So, how do Andy and Brooklyn keep things exciting after all these years? It’s all about making time for each other. “It sounds kind of easy,” Andy admitted, “but actually scheduling it is necessary, like saying, ‘Next Wednesday we’re going out,’ before life takes over and everything else.” Simple, right? But in today’s fast-paced world, taking the time to plan and prioritize your relationship can make all the difference. Brooklyn, who’s not just a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model but also a star on Netflix’s Grace and Frankie, knows the value of quality time as much as Andy does.

Since retiring from tennis, Andy has shifted his focus from the court to family life. “Certainly the focus shifts a little bit from tennis every day to other things,” he said. “It’s been fun.” And fun it is—raising two kids, enjoying life with Brooklyn, and building a life together that’s grounded in love and respect. But don’t think they’re done expanding their family just yet.
Thinking About Baby No. 3?
At the same event where Andy shared his relationship secrets, he also opened up about the possibility of adding another child to their growing family. “We’ve talked about it often, but I don’t know that we’ve come to a consensus yet,” he told Closer Weekly. Whether they decide to have another baby or not, one thing’s for sure: Andy and Brooklyn are relationship goals. Their love story is a testament to the power of patience, communication, and teamwork.
