Hey there, friends! After a two-season break, Peta Murgatroyd is officially back in the spotlight as she rejoins the cast of Dancing With the Stars for season 28. The talented 33-year-old dancer from Australia told Us Weekly that she's absolutely thrilled to be returning. "I’m overwhelmed with excitement," she said. "I’m excited and happy to be back with my family. Honestly, I just missed everybody so much!" Can you feel the excitement? We sure can!
Why Peta Took a Break
Now, you might be wondering why Peta took a step back from the show in the first place. Well, she and her husband, Maksim Chmerkovskiy—who also appeared on the series for 17 seasons—decided to take a hiatus after their son, Shai, was born in 2017. As any parent knows, raising a little one takes priority, and they wanted to focus on their growing family. But now that Shai is all grown up (well, 2 years old), Peta feels it's the perfect time to make her comeback. "I definitely wanted this to happen," she explained. "I've been hoping and praying that everything would fall into place, and now it has. It's the perfect time for my family. Maks has other projects, and Shai is well taken care of." Sounds like everything is lining up perfectly for her return!
Getting Back Into Shape
Of course, getting back into the swing of things wasn't a piece of cake. Dancing at the level required for Dancing With the Stars is no small feat. "It is very demanding," Peta admitted. "I've been working hard to get my body as prepared as possible. I'm in shape, but I hope to be even better by the time the show airs on September 16." Talk about dedication! Fans know how hard Peta works, and given her incredible success in the past—taking home the trophy in seasons 14 and 22—we have no doubt she'll be giving it her all this season.
