Patricia Heaton may not be a doctor in real life, but she plays one on Carol’s Second Act, a CBS comedy that’s got audiences hooked. Just like her iconic roles in Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle, Patricia brings her signature charm and humor to the screen. And guess what? She’s a mom in real life too. “Every night without fail, we watch Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune together,” Patricia shares about her family routine with her husband and four sons. “I surprise my kids with how much I know. They don’t usually think much of my brainpower, but I guess I’m full of surprises!”

Why We Love Patricia Heaton

Patricia’s quirky, dry sense of humor has made her a household name and a favorite among both fans and her co-workers. At 61, she’s still going strong, and her wit hasn’t dimmed one bit. “Patty is one of the most generous people I’ve ever met,” says Carol’s Second Act co-star Ito Aghayere. “She’s just an amazing human being.” Fellow cast member Sabrina Jalees adds, “I can’t believe I’m golfing with Patricia Heaton. Life doesn’t get better than this!”

Life in Her 60s: Reflecting on Success and Giving Back

Patricia’s life has taken some unexpected turns, but she’s embracing every moment with grace. “In my 60s, I feel like I know so much more, and I’m more relaxed about life,” she recently told Closer Weekly. Her perspective has been shaped by her work with World Vision, where she’s traveled extensively in Africa. “I’ve visited refugee camps, and it’s made me so aware of how blessed we are here. It’s a humbling experience.”

Married to British actor David Hunt since 1990, Patricia has four sons ranging in age from 20 to 25. Her journey hasn’t always been easy. “My mother passed away suddenly when I was 12, and it really shaped my outlook on life,” she explains. “You need to seize the day because tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. That ‘carpe diem’ attitude has stayed with me my whole life.”

Her acting career didn’t take off overnight. Patricia struggled early on until she landed a recurring role as a cancer doctor on Thirtysomething from 1989–’91. That role led to a lead part in the sitcom Room for Two, where she played Linda Lavin’s daughter. “I didn’t really make a living as an actress until I was 32,” Patricia recalls. “I started acting relatively late, so I always feel like I’m playing catch-up.”

Stepping Into a New Role: Carol’s Second Act

In Carol’s Second Act, Patricia plays Carol, an empty nester who decides to go back to medical school. “My kids are pretty much out of the house, and I was feeling a bit lost,” Patricia says. “I wasn’t a full-time mom anymore, and I didn’t have a steady acting job. I understood exactly how Carol felt—like, who am I without these things?”
