For former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, there’s one moment in her life she’ll never forget—the day she discovered her husband, Todd Palin, was considering filing for divorce. But here's the kicker: she didn’t learn about it from Todd himself. Instead, she stumbled upon an email that left her heartbroken and questioning the future of their marriage. Can you imagine the shock? Let me tell you, it was intense.
“I remember it like it was yesterday. I found out from an email from an attorney who said she had been hired. That was on June 19th—I’ll never forget it,” Sarah revealed during a candid interview with Christian broadcaster James Dobson on November 12. “Then, on Todd’s birthday, just a week after our 31st anniversary, he filed. Yeah, it wasn’t easy to talk about. It was absolutely devastating.”

When Todd finally came clean about his intentions, Sarah felt like her whole world had fallen apart. “I’m sure many of you, whether you’ve been through it yourself or have seen loved ones go through it, know how truly horrible it can be,” she explained. “But honestly, except for the death of a child, I can’t imagine anything more devastating than this.”

From Heartbreak to Healing: How They Decided to Work It Out
Despite Todd’s initial plans to end their marriage, the couple chose a different path. Instead of splitting up, they decided to work on their relationship. “We’re going through counseling now,” Sarah admitted, adding that their marriage isn’t really “over, over.” Sometimes, life gives us second chances, and this was one of those moments.
Sarah and Todd tied the knot back in 1988, and though their wedding was beautiful, Todd claimed in his divorce filings that living together as husband and wife had become “impossible.” Yet, Sarah always viewed marriage as a sacred and beautiful union. “To me, marriage is so incredibly important as the foundation of our nation,” she told James. “It strengthens America by providing family security, and I’m not ready to let mine be split apart. The prayer would be for God’s will to be done, but also for Him to remind us that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.”
