In a candid conversation, Patrick Duffy reflects on his 43-year marriage to the late Carlyn Rosser and how she was his rock during one of the darkest times of his life — the brutal murder of his parents. This tragic event took place on a chilling November night in 1986, and its impact continues to resonate with Patrick to this day.
The Life and Legacy of Patrick Duffy's Parents
The beloved Dallas actor recently shared heartfelt memories of his parents, Terence and Marie Duffy, in the latest issue of Closer Weekly, now available on newsstands. Describing them as "pretty ordinary, pleasant people" who were "very social," Patrick painted a vivid picture of their lives in Boulder, Montana. They were the proud owners of a local tavern named The Lodge, a place that became the tragic setting for their untimely demise.

Recounting the Tragic Night
Patrick recounted the harrowing details of that fateful night. "My father had to kick these two young men out of the bar at some point in the evening," he said. "They went elsewhere to drink and eventually returned with the intention of harming my father. When they entered the bar armed, they shot him. With no one else around, they also took the life of my mother."

At the time, Patrick didn't fully grasp how his faith would play a crucial role in his healing journey. "When my parents were murdered, I went through a whirlwind of emotions — shock, anger, despair," he explained. "But I never felt disconnected from them. I didn't feel the immediate void that often accompanies such loss. It wasn't until later that I realized this was due to my Buddhist beliefs."

Justice Served, Yet Forgiveness Found
Ultimately, the perpetrators were brought to justice. Sean Wentz, the man who pulled the trigger, received a sentence of 180 years in prison, where he remains incarcerated. Kenneth Miller, his accomplice, was released on parole in 2007. Surprisingly, Patrick harbors no bitterness towards Miller's release. "I'm at peace with it," he admitted. "My perspective is that he's already endured significant punishment, regardless of whether he's behind bars or free."
Carrying On the Legacy
Today, Patrick is dedicated to preserving the memories of both Carlyn and his parents. Their legacy lives on through the two sons he shared with Carlyn. Beyond his family, Patrick continues to thrive in his acting career. He's set to star in the Lifetime TV movie Random Acts of Christmas, set to premiere on November 17. Reflecting on his journey, Patrick shared, "I've worked hard to make the most of life, and it's been incredibly rewarding."
