Michael Douglas Reflects on Aging Icon Kirk Douglas
As the world prepares to celebrate another milestone birthday for legendary actor Kirk Douglas, his son, Michael Douglas, shares some heartfelt thoughts about the challenges his father faces as he continues to age gracefully. Speaking candidly at PaleyFest NY for The Kominsky Method on October 11, the 75-year-old actor opened up about his dad, who turns an impressive 103 on December 9.
Despite the excitement surrounding the occasion, Michael revealed that he won't be able to join the festivities this time around. "Unfortunately, we aren’t going to be there. We have a long-planned Christmas trip," the Oscar-winning star explained to Closer Weekly and other media outlets at the event. But even as life takes them in different directions, Michael’s admiration and love for his father remain unwavering.

Reflecting on his father's journey, Michael admitted, "It’s hard to say. I did a big one for the 100th! (laughing) Then 101, you know, it’s like, and it’s going on and on and it’s incredible! But even he’s getting like, it’s tough, because he says there’s nobody left around — you lose all your friends." The sentiment underscores the challenges that come with aging, even for someone as iconic as Kirk Douglas.

Kirk Douglas: A Legacy in Hollywood
While Kirk Douglas may not be starring in films as frequently these days, his legacy in Hollywood remains unshaken. The 1960 classic Spartacus is perhaps his most famous role, but his career boasts an array of unforgettable performances. Films like Champion, The Bad and the Beautiful, and Lust for Life earned him multiple Oscar nominations. Michael, however, has one film in mind if he ever had the chance to remake one of his dad’s movies.
“That would be a tough one! I’ve stayed away from the Westerns because he’s done those too well,” the Ant-Man co-star explained. “Maybe like ‘Ace in the Hole.’ That was sort of a dark character, you know? And I kind of like those guys.” This insight into Michael's admiration for his father's work highlights the respect and admiration that runs deep in their family.
