Let’s talk about Kathie Lee Gifford, the woman who lit up our mornings for 11 years on Today alongside Hoda Kotb. Since she stepped away from the show this April, Kathie hasn’t slowed down one bit. At 66 years young, she’s diving headfirst into a new chapter of her life—and trust me, it’s nothing short of inspiring. When Kathie stopped by the NBC show recently, she opened up about her fresh start, and it’s clear she’s happier than ever.
Hoda Kotb Celebrates Kathie’s Joyful Transition
Hoda Kotb, Kathie’s longtime partner in crime, couldn’t help but gush about her friend during the third hour of Today, co-hosted by Jenna Bush Hager. “Everybody asks me, ‘How is Kathie doing?’” Hoda shared with the audience. “And I tell them, ‘You don’t understand—Kathie is happier now than I’ve ever seen her.’” Kathie chimed in, agreeing wholeheartedly. “It’s true,” she said with a laugh. “I’m happier than I’ve been in years and years and years.”

A Fresh Start in Nashville
Kathie’s new life in Nashville is a world away from her previous routines in Connecticut and New York City. During her visit to the show, she shared a delightful story about stepping out of her comfort zone. “I went on my first date in 33 years,” she revealed with a twinkle in her eye. “It was such a blast! I went out with some friends to a club to hear my favorite band down there. This sweet guy asked me to dance, and I said, ‘Sure!’ It was fun because I hadn’t been on a date in over three decades. The world has changed so much, but he was a true gentleman. It was a great experience.”

Remembering Frank Gifford
Of course, Kathie’s heart still holds a special place for her late husband, Frank Gifford, who passed away in 2015. While she hasn’t met anyone quite like him since, she’s embracing her independence and making the most of her new life in Nashville. “There’s a different vibe down there,” she explained. “It’s a culture of kindness. People in Nashville are genuinely warm and joyful. They know how to have fun, and it’s contagious.”
