Exclusive Q&A With Jonathan And Drew Scott: The Hunky Property Brothers

Jonathan Scott and Drew Scott Double Date With Their Partners

Let’s talk about the dynamic duo of the renovation world, the Scott brothers—Jonathan and Drew. Standing tall at 6-foot-4, these twins have captured hearts on HGTV’s hit shows. But are they as funny as they are skilled with a hammer? Absolutely, and then some! When asked about their brotherly bond, Drew, who's 41, hilariously quips, "I think we were closest in the womb."

Now, you might be wondering if these brothers have ever pulled a prank by switching identities. Jonathan, also 41, deadpans, "Only when I’m breaking the law." But let's get real—these guys aren't just about laughs. Their success is no joke. Revenue from their shows, furniture, and home decor lines reportedly topped half a billion dollars last year. And that’s not all! They've got an exclusive home collection called Scott Living at Kohl’s, available online starting September 30 and in stores from October 10. They’ve also released a new kids' book, Builder Brothers: Better Together, and launched their latest series, Property Brothers: Forever Home.

On the personal front, things are just as impressive. Drew tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Linda Phan, last year. And after meeting Zooey Deschanel on Carpool Karaoke in August, Jonathan is now dating the former New Girl star. We caught up with the Scott brothers at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival to discuss all this and more.

If I pinch myself, do you think my twin feels it? 😆 because I still can’t believe I get to do what I do and call it work. So happy that I get to help change people’s lives, one home at a time! . . . #propertybrothers #foreverhome #family #home #lovewhatyoudo #design #renovation #hgtv

Living the Dream: How Do You Describe This Time in Your Lives?

Drew: [Singing] "I had the time of my life …" It's genuinely fun because our shows are seen in over 160 countries, and it’s wild to see how we influence people. Every day feels like a dream.

Jonathan: We don’t see ourselves as celebrities but as personalities who inspire others. Our fans connect with us on a personal level, and that’s incredibly humbling. We’re grateful for the opportunity to make a difference.

Jonathan: People often say family shouldn’t work together, but we’ve proven them wrong since our first business venture—making fabric-covered wire hangers—when we were just 7 years old.

Drew: Back then, we spent more time goofing off than working. But now, we’re best friends who share a passion for design and renovation. We’re nerds at heart, and we love solving puzzles together. We don’t need much to be happy.

Jonathan: Having a supportive partner like Linda or Zooey definitely helps too.

Jonathan, What Do You Look for in a Partner?

Jonathan: I’m drawn to someone who’s articulate, has a great sense of humor, and maintains an optimistic outlook on life. It’s important not to take yourself too seriously.

Drew: And they need to pass my “good for Jonathan” checklist! Zooey and Jonathan are both amazing people, and I’m thrilled for them. It’s exciting because it means I get to spend more time with my brother in L.A.

Double Dates: Do You Four Ever Hit the Town Together?

Drew: Absolutely! We share similar interests and quirky personalities, so double dates are always a blast.

Drew, Tell Us About Meeting Linda

Drew: I saw her across the room at an event in 2010 and instantly knew she was the one. She’s now a creative director with our company, and I can’t wait to start a family with her. She’ll make an incredible mom. Honestly, family is all I need.

Jonathan: Excuse me, I’m going to puke from all this sweetness. [Laughs]

Family Plans: Kids? How Soon and How Many?

Drew: We’re not in a rush, but maybe 13 kids? [Laughs] Seriously, we have lots of nieces and nephews through Linda’s sisters, so we’ve had plenty of practice. One day soon, hopefully.

Jonathan: We’re super close with our parents, and family is everything.

    Jonathan, What About You?

Jonathan: I believe I’d be an amazing dad. Whether I find someone to coparent or go solo, I’m ready for the adventure.

    Lessons Learned: Your Previous Marriage

Jonathan: Our kids' book emphasizes that failure is not a bad thing as long as you learn from it. From my marriage, I learned more about who I wanted to become. With our demanding schedules, relationships can be challenging, so I’m realistic about what I want and who I want to share it with.
