As we gear up for the holiday season, it’s always great to add more family-friendly musicals to our watchlist. And here comes one you might not have heard about yet: Buttons: A Christmas Tale. This enchanting film brings together a star-studded cast, featuring legends like Dick Van Dyke, Angela Lansbury, Jane Seymour, Roma Downey, and Abigail Spencer. Oh, and if that’s not enough, it’s narrated by none other than Kate Winslet and the iconic Robert Redford. Can you believe it? This is one Christmas special you won’t want to miss!
What's the Story Behind 'Buttons'?
Written and directed by the incredibly talented Tim Janis, Buttons tells the touching tale of two orphaned sisters whose greatest wish is to find a home just in time for Christmas. With a little help from their guardian angels, played by the legendary Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury, these young girls embark on a journey of hope, faith, and the magic of belief. The story beautifully reminds us that even in the darkest moments, miracles can happen when you hold on to hope and trust in the unseen forces of love and kindness.

Dick Van Dyke and the Tradition of Musical Magic
You know, Dick Van Dyke is no stranger to the world of musicals. Over his illustrious career, he’s graced our screens with timeless classics like Bye Bye Birdie, the original Mary Poppins (and let’s not forget his cameo in Mary Poppins Returns), and the beloved Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which was inspired by a children’s book written by none other than Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond. In a candid conversation with Closer, Dick shared his excitement about working on Buttons, saying, “It was truly refreshing to collaborate with such young, energetic artists who bring an entrepreneurial spirit to the table. They’re breathing new life into the musical genre, and it’s absolutely thrilling to be a part of it.”

How 'Buttons' Came to Life
In an interview with sonomachristianhome.com, Tim Janis, the mastermind behind Buttons, revealed the fascinating backstory of how this project came together. "It all started in two unexpected ways," Tim explained. "First, I was at a mass at St. Christopher’s when the idea for the story struck me. And then, out of the blue, Dick Van Dyke stumbled upon my song 'Keep a Smile on Your Face' and reached out personally, saying we needed to do something special with it. It was like fate was nudging us in the right direction." Isn’t that incredible? Sometimes the best ideas come from the most unexpected places.
