When it comes to long-lasting marriages, few couples can rival Connie Chung and Maury Povich. Celebrating over three decades together, this power couple knows how to keep the laughter alive and keep things real. Their secret? A good sense of humor and the ability to laugh at themselves.
How They Keep It Real After All These Years
Connie Chung, now 73, recently graced the stage at The International Women’s Media Foundation Courage in Journalism Awards on October 30, 2019, where she shared some pearls of wisdom about her enduring marriage to TV personality Maury Povich, who's 80. Speaking candidly, Connie told Closer Weekly, "Maury and I don’t take ourselves too seriously. In this business, people can get a bit carried away with their own importance. It’s like their heads are too big to fit into Madison Square Garden!”
She went on to explain how staying grounded is key to their relationship. "Once you get on TV and start doing the news, people who used to be normal suddenly think they're larger than life. Anchors are the worst offenders. It’s important to keep things in perspective," she joked.

Connie’s Take on Television Personalities
Connie isn’t shy about calling out the quirks of her industry. She quipped, "The moment some folks see themselves on television, they change. They think they're celebrities, and their egos balloon. It’s a funny thing. You’d be surprised how many people you thought were nice and normal suddenly turn into caricatures of themselves." Her honesty about the industry is refreshing, and it’s clear that she and Maury have managed to avoid falling into that trap.

A Marriage That’s Still Going Strong
Connie and Maury tied the knot way back in 1984, and they’ve been a team ever since. They share a son, Matthew, whom they adopted. Despite the ups and downs of life, Connie says she still finds herself falling for Maury’s sense of humor. "Most of the time, I don’t really like him much," she joked. "But I love him. We’ve been through so much together, and he keeps me laughing." Her honesty is a testament to the strength of their bond.
Maury, of course, is best known for his daytime talk show, which first aired in 1991. Connie herself is a fan, though she admits she doesn’t always watch it with him. "He won’t watch himself, but I do," she said. "I enjoy the show, especially the parts that tug at the heartstrings." She even has a favorite segment. "I love it when he does those tear-jerking family reunions. They’re so emotional, and I can’t help but cry," she revealed.
