“I grew up as a young woman with a single mother,” she recalled during the interview. “One night, my mother’s boyfriend came into my room and started fondling me. Thankfully, it didn’t escalate into a full assault, but even that level of violation was devastating for a child of 12 or 13.”
What made all the difference was her mother’s immediate and decisive response. “My mom figured out what happened as soon as the sun came up, and she kicked him out without hesitation,” Angela said. “Having a mother who listened, believed me, and took action was incredibly empowering for me as a young teen and as a young woman.”
